A brief history

Mar Vista is one of the oldest neighborhoods in LA. Before it was annexed in 1927, the area wasa farming community known as the Lima Bean Belt. When the Venice Short Line trolley was opened, transporting passengers between Los Angeles and Santa Monica or Venice Beach, the area’s population rapidly grew. Many of the new residents picked Mar Vista as the community to settle owing to the place’s ideal location and stunning ocean views.

  • Vibrant downtown. Historic Downtown Mar Vista, also known as the Venice/Grand View Historic Commercial District, is home to buildings constructed from the 1920s to the 1960s. Downtown is also the site of two popular community events – aweekly farmers’ marketthat’s considered one of the best and most popular in LA, and the seasonal Mar Vista Art Walk.
  • Vibrant restaurant scene. Mar Vista has recently been gaining attention for the growing number of excellent restaurants in the area. It boasts a great collection of old and new favorites offering a wide array of cuisines, including Mexican, Taiwanese, French, Japanese, and more. Cozy ice cream shops and cafés are also among the neighborhood staples.
