Marina del Rey, CA

Few places in Southern California match the carefree and fun-loving vibe of Marina del Rey, one of the best known recreational areas on this side of Golden State. Located just six miles north of LAX, it is known for sandy beaches, scenic bike paths, sunset cruises, and sailboats floating idly on the water.

Enjoy the ultimate vacation lifestyle in this charming coastal town. Marina del Rey invites you to step out of the daily grind and experience a more laid-back environment.

A brief history

The Shoshone and Gabrielino – Tongva tribes were believed to be the area’s first inhabitants, living on the bluffs above the Pacific. The area was a peaceful and bountiful estuary known for steel head trout fishing and duck hunting.

The marina was formally dedicated in 1965, after an ambitious Army Corps of Engineers project transformed it into the biggest artificial harbor for small crafts in the United States. It was a concerted effort between private developers, Los Angeles County, and the Federal government.

With more than 4,000 boat slips, Marina del Rey is a year-round destination for those who want to enjoy the mild climate and crystalline waters of the Pacific.

Today, major industries include Science, Tech, Information, and Health Care and Social Assistance.
