Hollywood

Hollywood needs no introduction. A storied and star-studded locale like no other, Tinseltown is the place to be for ingénues, artists, and producers with dreams of fame and fortune.

It’s also an amazing area to live in. Just ask any of the more than 85,000 residents who call Hollywood home. At 3.51 square miles, it harbors many of Los Angeles County’s world-famous landmarks within city limits. From the glitzy Walk of Fame to the larger-than-life Hollywood sign, there’s a surprise waiting around every corner.

A brief history

Hollywood started out as a prosperous agricultural community before filmmakers made their way to town to escape the restrictions imposed by the Thomas Edison-owned Motion Pictures Patent Company, which had the rights to numerous filmmaking patents and would shut down independent productions on the East Coast.

Today, its major industries include entertainment, tourism, tech, and aerospace.

Real estate tycoon Harvey Henderson Wilcox and wife Daeida were the first to use the name “Hollywood” on official documents, while real estate developer Hobart Johnstone “H.J.” Whitley is credited with building one of the first subdivisions in Tinseltown, the Whitley Home Tract, earning him the monicker “Father of Hollywood”.

Present-day subdivisions are filled with Mid Century Modern, Art Deco, Craftsman, Victorian, and Mission Revival-style houses for rent in Hollywood, CA.
